Appearance
"Cat shark"-like appearance. Both dorsal fins are equal-sized. Origin of first dorsal fin behind the rear ends of the pectoral fins. Anal fin slightly larger than second dorsal fin. Long peduncle.
Coloration
Light brown with whitish ventral surface (belly). Saddles weakly developed. Dark spots over entire body.
Distribution
Western Pacific: Eastern Australia.
Biology
Although abundant, a little-known species. Prefers shallow waters, down to 80 m. Lives preferably close to or at the bottom
Diet
Invertebrates.
Size
Maximum total length at least 60 cm.
Reproduction
Oviparous (egg laying). Males reach sexual maturity at about 55 cm, females at about 57 cm.
Similar Species
Some species of this family look very similar and taxonomic features have to be used to clearly differentiate between the species.
