A typical "cat shark" with a slender body. Origin of first dorsal fin over free ends of pectoral fins. Both dorsal fins are equal-sized. Origin of second dorsal fin opposite of anal fin"s origin. Anal fin much smaller than second dorsal fin.
Coloration
Light beige with dark spots over entire body, including fins. Saddles can be present, but inconspicous. Bright ventral surface.
Distribution
Western Pacific: Western Australia.
Biology
Little-known but abundant species. Lives preferably in very shallow water (down to 5 m). Seems to be nocturnal.
Diet
Invertebrates.
Size
Average size between 40 cm and 50 cm, maximum total length about 65 cm.
Reproduction
Oviparous (egg laying). Males reach sexual maturity at about 55 cm.
Similar Species
Some species of this family have a similar appearance but the dark dots are good features to differentiate from the others.
