Very small, with a conical, blunt and long snout. Gill openings increase from front to back, and the fifth one has twice the length of the first one. Dorsal fins without spines. Origin of the first dorsal fin is behind the free rear ends of the pectorals. Uniquely shaped pectoral fins. Small keel on peduncle. No anal fin.
Coloration
Blackish brown, with conspicuous white margins on fins.
Distribution
Wide distribution possible but not proven yet since only 2 specimens have been found. Western Atlantic: Uruguay. Eastern Atlantic: South Africa.
Biology
Little-known dwarf shark. Based on the shape and size of the pectoral fins it is suggested they show pectoral propulsion or at least pectoral hovering.
Diet
Unknown. Based on their sharp lower teeth and strong jaw structure one can assume that they can feed on relatively large prey.
