Very slender body, with a long, small snout. Both dorsal fins are equal- sized. Origin of first dorsal fin opposite the rear ends of the pectoral fins. Second dorsal fin is opposite to and much larger than the anal fin.
Coloration
Grey-brown in back region, light ventral surface (belly).
Distribution
Western Pacific: New Zealand.
Biology
Little-known species. Lives preferably close to bottom on the outer edges of the continental shelf and the upper slope. Down to a depth of 200 m to 400 m.
Diet
Feeds probably on fishes and invertebrates.
Size
Total maximum size about 100 cm, average size between 70 cm and 90 cm.
Reproduction
Aplacental viviparous (ovoviviparous).
Similar Species
Some species have a similar appearance and taxonomic features have to be used to clearly distinguish.
