Appearance
Typical "cat shark" appearance. Slender body. Pointed snout. Gill slits are slightly elevated. Two equal-sized, relatively small dorsal fins. Origin of first dorsal fin over mid pelvic fins. Spiracles are well developed.
Coloration
Yellow-beige or brown, with dark saddles. Whitish ventral surface.
Distribution
Indo-Western Pacific: Somalia, Gulf of Aden, Western Australia, Philippines, Vietnam.
Biology
Little-known species. Over the continental shelves. Lives on the bottom and prefers depths between 30 m to 90 m.
Diet
Invertebrates.
Size
Maximum total length about 50 cm, average size between 30 cm and 40 cm.
Reproduction
Probably oviparous (egg laying). Males and females reach sexual maturity at 42 cm to 45 cm.
Similar Species
Some species of this family look very similar and taxonomic features have to be used to clearly distinguish.
