Typical appearance of a rather stocky requiem shark. Moderately long snout. Small eyes. Second dorsal fin nearly as high as first one (about 3/4 of first dorsal fin). Origin of first dorsal fin over inner margins of pectoral fins. Origin of second dorsal fin over anal fin"s origin. Broad, triangular pectoral fins. Anal fins slightly smaller than second dorsal fin.
Coloration
Grey to brownish upper body, white ventral surface. No conspicuous color patterns.
Distribution
Indo-Western Pacific: India, Pakistan, Burma, Indonesia, Sarawak, China.
Biology
A not well studied species. Lives inshore over continental areas.
Diet
Probably small fishes and invertebrates.
Size
Maximum size about 168 cm, average size between 100 to 140 cm..
Reproduction
Viviparous, with yolksac placenta (gives birth to live young). 4 to 8 pups per litter. Size at birth between 40 and 60 cm. Males reach sexual maturity at about 114 cm, females between 130 and 160 cm. Pups seem to be born before monsoon season (April and May). Gestation period of 8 months seems likely.
Similar Species
