Moderately slender body, with trunk tapering slightly toward the head. Relatively long snout, broad and bell-shaped (preoral snout about 7 to 8 % of total body length). Gill slits moderately long but much smaller than eye diameter. Eyes small in adults (about 3 to 4 % of total body length). Narrow nostrils (incurrent and excurrent apertures moderately large and oval). First dorsal fin about the same size as second one. Origin of first dorsal fin about opposite pelvic fin midbases. Insertion of second dorsal fin opposite anal fin insertion. Pelvic fins low. Anal fin moderately long (about three times as long as high), high and angular.
Coloration
Medium brown, grey or greyish-black. No conspicuous markings.
Distribution
Eastern Pacific: Gulf of Panama, Ecuador, central Chile.
Biology
A little-known, bottom-dwelling species found on the upper continental slope, probably at depths between 500 and 1000 m.

Unknown.

Maximum length about 59 cm.
Reproduction
Unknown, most likely oviparous (egg laying).
Similar Species
Other species of the same genus (Apristurus) have a similar appearance but no other lives in the same area.
