Appearance
Relatively slender body, with trunk tapering slightly toward the head. Long snout, basally broad but distally parabolic and bell-shaped (preoral snout about 12 % of total body length). Short gill slits, smaller than eye diameter. Broad nostrils (incurrent and excurrent apertures very large and oval). First dorsal fin smaller than second one (about 2/3 in base length). Origin of first dorsal fin opposite last third of pelvic fin bases. Insertion of second dorsal fin about opposite of anal fin insertion. Pectoral fins rather small. Pelvic fins moderately high and broadly rounded. Very long anal fin, low and angular (about five times as long as high).

Grey-black, no conspicuous markings.

Western Pacific: Off Japan (only known from the type locality; that is, the place where the specimen was found upon which the species description is based),

Unknown. The specimen was found in deepwater, probably close to bottom.

Unknown.
Size
Specimen size was 37.5 cm, maximum size most likely larger.
Reproduction
Unknown, most likely oviparous (egg laying).

Snout form is unmistakable.
