Which shark species are actually dangerous?

Only a few of the more than 500 shark species can become dangerous to humans at all. Sharks must be about the size of a human to be dangerous to us.

Listed below are the 10 shark species that have caused the most accidents since records began in 1580.

Exceptions should confirm the rule. In 2019, long-distance swimmers in Hawaii were bitten three times at night by so-called Cookie Cutter sharks (Isistius brasiliensis), which grow to an average length of 30 to 60 cm and live in the deep sea.
